What I’m Loving - January 2024
Well, we definitely started off 2024 with a bang. From a trip to Jamaica that ended with a winter storm, cancelled flights, and an extra day and a half of vacation in Orlando, Florida to new career opportunities, there was no easing into the new year over here.
A trip recap and resort review of our trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica is upcoming so stay tuned for that!
I also shared in a previous post two habits that I’m trying out this year and really loving as a routine part of my day (The Five Minute Journal) and a monthly habit (doing a tarot card pull at the beginning of each month). Now that I’m working normal hours and living a more normal life, integrating these habits into my days has been very helpful for my mental well-being.

What I’m Watching:
After a harrowing home invasion and kidnapping in 2015, a couple is accused of staging the ordeal when the woman reappears in this true-crime docuseries.
If you are new to this blog, you will not know that I LOVE true crime. I love the mystery, trying to solve it myself, the nuance behind the investigations, etc. So when I saw this pop up on my Netflix “recommended for you” I talked B into watching it with me. American Nightmare is the true story of a home invasion, investigation, and how the two victims ended up being treated as perpetrators by law enforcement. It is very good, definitely took some twists and turns I did not expect, and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Trigger warning for mentions/description of sexual assault.
Wearing:
Lately I’ve been a huge fan of a few things: classic dressing (black and white, Chanel quilting, those classic silhouettes) and vintage jewelry. For Christmas, I picked up this beautiful cameo ring from Cassidy Vintage, one of my favorite online jewelry curators. I’ve loved cameos forever and this one is very different to others that I’ve seen - the hair and clothing design has more of a Tudor-era vibe than the normal Italian-esque portraits that can commonly be found. And I love the history that these vintage pieces carry. I wonder how many women have worn this ring and love the powerful feminine energy that this gives off.

Goodreads Synopsis:
To hell with love, this goddess has other plans...
Thousands of years ago, the gods told a lie: how Persephone was a pawn in the politics of other gods. How Hades kidnapped Persephone to be his bride. How her mother, Demeter, was so distraught she caused the Earth to start dying.
The real story is much more interesting.
Persephone wasn't taken to hell: she jumped. There was no way she was going to be married off to some smug god more in love with himself than her.
Now all she has to do is convince the Underworld's annoyingly sexy, arrogant and frankly rude ruler, Hades, to fall in line with her plan. A plan that will shake Mount Olympus to its very core.
But consequences can be deadly, especially when you're already in hell . . .
A fierce, fresh and enormously fun YA fantasy re-imagining from a growing TikTok superstar.
I saw this book being promoted on Instagram and knew I had to add it to my TBR. I love a good Hades and Persephone retelling and the feminist undertones of this one really grabbed my attention. I have started this and love it so far!
