Saturday, October 17th, 2015
Hart Park, Wauwatosa, WI
4:45 Start for 5K and 5 Miler
3:45 Start for Kid's Races

Registration fees for the 5K ranged from $30/adult or 230/child up to $45/adult and $25 /child, depending on when you registered.

Fees for the 5 Miler ranged from $40/adult and $30/child up to $55/adult and $35/child, again depending on when you registered.

The special Kid's Race event fee was $12 in advance or $17 at Packet Pick-Up.

Race day registration was also available for all distances.

Event coordinators wanted to provide a fun day with activities for the whole family. In addition to the races, events included:
  • Pumpkin carving
  • Farmer's Market
  • Games for all ages
  • Costume contest for adults and children
  • a screening of "Hotel Transylvania"
Packet Pick-Up was offered on Friday, Oct. 16th (day before the race) from 4-7 pm at Hart Park and the day of the event from 2:30-4:30.

All participants got a shirt (I believe the 5 Milers got a different color) and I have to say, props to them for not going with a 100% cotton shirt because this cotton/poly blend shirt is SO RIDICULOUSLY SOFT AND COMFY!

Swag bags also included a $5 off $25 purchase from The Chancery and fliers for upcoming Vision Event Management Races - Drumstick Dash 5K (use code  DASHBIBRAVE to save 10%! Register here!), Rock 'n Sole 2016, and Madison Mini 2016.

A virtual swag bag was also e-mailed to all participants that had a bunch of other race discounts and discounts from local retailers. Two discounts that I am totally going to use are a complimentary glass of wine at The Ruby Tap (YES WINE!) and 20% off one item at The Little Read Book Shop in Tosa Village. I love that the Tosa Village community really supported this event!

We got there about 15 minutes before the 4:45 start (running just a little bit late!) but had no problem finding a place to park on Honeycreek Parkway, right by the Start/Finish line.

Kyle Fraser, winner of the 2015 Lakefront Marathon, led the runners (he participated in the 5 Miler and won it, of course!) fully clad in a minion costume!

Lots of runners ran in costume and kids were running both the 5K and the 5 Miler! The course was marked with cones in the areas where the two distances split, with both a sign with the distance and an arrow indicating which way you were to go as well as volunteers with bull horns shouting out the instructions.

There were some areas in the neighborhood we were running through where streets were not blocked off and there was the occasional car, but drivers were extremely courteous and cautious.

All finishers received a medal given to them by volunteer kids clad in various costumes. The Pumpkin Princess gave me mine!

Water bottles, an apple, and candy (!!) were also handed out by those enthusiastic kids who were shouting "GREAT JOB!" to all the finishers. It was so cute!

I ran the course easy, as I'm two weeks out from the Milwaukee Running Festival Half Marathon, but I was surprised that not only did I have my best 5K time to date, but I finished 2nd in my age group!

I would definitely do this race again (maybe next year I can get my nephew to join me!).
