What I’m Loving: June

I know I missed May’s What I’m Loving but to be fair I was enjoying the mountains of Colorado so that’s a pretty good reason, right?

Summer showed up with a bang this year and the weather has been absolutely wonderful! Since normally we spend a majority of the year with cold, cruddy weather, I’m really enjoying the sunshine and warmth!

Reading:

With the death of Edward VI in 1553, England, for the first time, would have a reigning queen. The question was: Who?

Four women stood upon the crest of history: Katherine of Aragon’s daughter, Mary; Anne Boleyn’s daughter, Elizabeth; Mary, Queen of Scots; and Lady Jane Grey. But over the centuries, other exceptional women had struggled to push the boundaries of their authority and influence—and been vilified as “she-wolves” for their ambitions. Revealed in vivid detail, the stories of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Isabella of France, Margaret of Anjou, and the Empress Matilda expose the paradox that England’s next female leaders would confront as the Tudor throne lay before them—man ruled woman, but these women sought to rule a nation.

It’s no secret that I’m fascinated by European history and especially the women who influenced decisions and matters that had worldwide effects. This book was a late-night Amazon browse find that instantly grabbed my attention. Powerful women didn’t make it into the history books as much as their male counterparts but still placed such a huge role in British and European history.

Wearing:

We all know the late 90’s and early 2000’s are back and I was on the hunt for a really cool backpack purse. I’ve become quite a fan of Mulberry - their leathers are gorgeous and of course I love a British brand - but I am NOT a fan of paying retail. One night while I was Fashionphile perusing, I spotted a Cara Delevigne backpack that she designed with Mulberry in 2014. I love that she added personal touched like the MADE IN ENGLAND stamp on the bottom that coordinates to one of her tattoos. I’ll include a YouTube video she did explaining how she chose the design elements of her collection.

The Mulberry Cara Backpack is currently not available but keep checking back because Fashionphile is always getting new stuff in! Here’s a couple gorgeous Mulberry bags - a beautiful Bayswater Tote in Oak (same color as my bag), a fun Bayswater Backpack in Black, and a stunning Alexa in Poppy Red.

Listening:

I like to listen to podcasts on my way to and from work. Since the release of A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas (the 5th book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and tied for my favorite with A Court of Mist and Fury, which is book two) I just can’t get enough of the Inner Circle and the Night Court. Steph (@ideallyinspiredreviews) and Ava (@kingdomofmaas) are the hosts and they talk about all aspects of SJM’s catalog of work (including Throne of Glass and Crescent City, her other two series). If you love reading, fantasy, sarcasm, and general bookish talk, check out this podcast!

Hope you all are having a wonderful beginning of your summer, if you have any favorites to share drop them in the comments!
