Planning Our Colorado Road Trip
Well, second time’s a charm right?
One year ago, B and I were sitting down to flesh out what was supposed to be our SUPER AWESOME EPIC COLORADO ROAD TRIP ADVENTURE! Little did we know that coronavirus would shut down the world and all I can say is that I’m glad we hadn’t booked any of our hotels yet.
After discussing what our big trip for the year would be, B brought up that we could re-plan the road trip we intended to take last year. And it actually might work out better because I was more strategic with how I scheduled my PTO so I basically have 17 days off.
B and I love Colorado. Two summers ago he spent a majority of May-July in Denver for work and when I went out to visit him in July, I fell in love. Denver itself is such a cool city with loads of different microbreweries, amazing restaurants, and you just can’t beat the view of the Rockies. If you ever want to be awe-inspired and feel insignificant at the same time, drive through Rocky Mountain National Park and see the 14-ers. It is the second most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.
Our plan is do hit up a lot of the places we didn't get to explore when we were in Denver last - Boulder/Fort Collins, Estes Park, Breckenridge/Vail/Avon, Telluride, and Colorado Springs. We will be taking both Arthur and Frank with us, and have been able to find a lot of places where dogs are allowed to go hiking with you (Colorado in general is a very dog-friendly state) and lots of dog friendly hotels as well.
This will be our first time traveling that far with both dogs - Arthur went with us on a road trip to Tennessee two years ago and while he did okay, he was not the best behaved. I’m hoping that the dogs will be able to wear each other out, not just act twice as ridiculous. I’m also already brainstorming the best way to pack their stuff - food, toys, hiking gear, etc.
Lots of packing and planning posts will be forthcoming, so stay tuned for all that! If you have any recommendations for dog-friendly activities to do in Colorado, drop them in the comments!
