Local Spotlight: 2A Wine Merchants

Salut!

2A Wine Merchants, located at 577 W. Erie in Milwaukee, is a tasting room/wine shop whose aim is to take thee pretentiousness out of being a wine enthusiast. Along with some friends of ours, we attended a private wine tasting for a friend’s birthday led by Rob, one of the owners. Tattooed up and wearing flannel, he led our customized tasting with enthusiasm and encouragement.

Our friends gave Rob some guidance about wines that they liked and Rob picked some awesome small batch wines for us to try. My favorites were thee 2019 Vincent Pinard Sancerre ‘Cuvee Flores’ from the Loire Valley in France and the 2019 Michel Gahier Arbois Trousseau ‘La Vigne du Louis’ from the Jura region of France. These are two wines I would never pick out off the shelf but they both have amazing and very different tastes compared to other wines I have had.

Our tasting was $60 per person for 5 different wines and about an hour/hour and a half long privately led tasting. I think this experience was a great value and Rob made it very enjoyable, especially for someone like me who doesn’t really have a basis for wine tasting - I just try whatever and I would love to learn more.

They also host events featuring local restaurants and monthly wine and pizza nights. Definitely worth a stop if you are interested in wine!
