Hotel Review: The Baglioni Hotel London

For the second half of our time in London, we decided to treat ourselves and splurge on a 5 star hotel for three nights. After perusing the options on the American Express Travel portal, we decided on the Baglioni Hotel in Kensington, which is across the road from Hyde Park and in the same neighborhood as Kensington Palace (you know, where most of the British Royal Family has apartments in London!).

The room we booked was just an Executive Room, which is the basic room available at The Baglioni. However, part of the American Express Platinum Card perks is that, when available, the hotel will upgrade your room (for the Fine Hotels and Resorts Collection, these are clearly marked on the American Express Travel portal). So we were upgraded to a suite on the top floor and those windows had a view of Kensington Palace and looked straight out onto Hyde Park Gate and the park itself.

The room had a king sized bed, minibar with an actual espresso machine, a small seating area and a desk area. The bathroom had a HUGE bathtub, like I’m talking 2-3 people could sit comfortably in that thing! The Baglioni has their own brand of bath products, DellaLuna Venezia, and the scent was called Midnight in Venice. They smelled amazing and I definitely hoarded a few to bring home.

Now this is a welcome!

Shortly after we arrived, a staff member rang the doorbell and brought a bottle of champagne and strawberries to our room, wishing us a happy anniversary and offering to unpack for us! I have never experienced that level of service before and it was very nice!

Oh you know, just a casual view of a palace….

Our room also included daily breakfast in the restaurant for two people so we fully took advantage of that. There was a beautiful buffet each day with homemade pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurt, granola, and juices. In addition, each person could also order an entrée from their full breakfast menu. I had amazing avocado burrata toast each morning and the bread was made fresh each day - absolutely delicious! Each day, the waitstaff greeted us by name and even remembered what I had ordered the day before!

I was absolutely blown away by the level of service we received. I know that 5 star hotels are usually cost prohibitive, but utilizing rewards programs like the ones offered through credit cards are a great way to have these experiences for a decreased cost or to get extra perks, like with the American Express Platinum card.

Have you ever stayed in a 5 star hotel? Did you think it was work the price?
