2018 Decluttering Project

After binge reading a few books on minimalism and investigating the concept of Hygge (I recommend this book for anyone interested!), I decided that this year I am going to do a massive declutter of my home.

It is amazing the amount of stuff one can accumulate during their lifetime. Over the summer, B was cleaning out our basement and we found boxes that we had never unpacked from when we moved in... seven years ago. We ended up donating the contents of the boxes, because if we hadn't touched it in seven years we really must not need it, right?

I'm still nailing down the timeline for what areas of the house I want do when, but so far I think it's going to go something like this:

February/March
- my closet: clothing, pouches, accessories, random junk, makeup, the bins of samples I have stashed, and all my running gear- attic spaces: my bins of nursing school stuff, gift wrap, random junk.

April
- guest room: the dresser drawers, closet, and underneath the bed.
- bathroom: cabinet, storage tower.

May
- kitchen: cabinets, bar, under the sink, fridge.
- back hallway: coats and jackets, backpacks and bags.

June/July
-Reserved for the garage and our backyard.

August
- basement: shelves, boxes, the laundry area, and under the stairs.

We don't have many holiday-specific decorations save for Christmas, so as holidays come up I will be going through any decor we have and decluttering that as we go.
