Away Luggage Review

For the low-down on the creation of Away, read this interview the creators did with Travel & Leisure.

I purchased The Bigger Carry-On in Pop & Suki Pink (all the pink, all the time). It measures 22.7" X 14.7" X 9.6" and clocks in at 7.3 lbs with a 46L capacity.

I took this suitcase on a couple domestic flights and one round-trip international flight and it really impressed me. Even with all the stuff I packed into it, at no point was my suitcase more than 29 lbs, well below the 50 lb weight limit for checked luggage.

Some of my favorite features of this bag:
  • The color, obviously. This color was a collaboration with Pop & Suki, but they just brought back the pink (dubbed Blush, but on the interwebs everyone calls it Millenial Pink).
  • The hard sides. I've never had a hard-sided piece of luggage before and I was unsure of how I would be able to pack everything I need. Never fear, I didn't even have to sit on it to zip it shut on the way home from Ireland once I added all my souvenirs!
  • The weight. When empty, it only weighs 7.3 lbs (unless you take out the charger, then it probably weighs closer to 6).
  • The built-in charger. There are 2 USB ports, so both you and your traveling companion can charge at the same time. I have yet to empty that battery on a single trip!
  • The 360 degree wheels. I have literally had to RUN through the airport and this suitcase literally was gliding next to me. I love the ease of 4-wheeled luggage!

Also incorporated on the top is a spot to look your zippers (TSA-Approved!). You come up with your own combination but if one of those lovely TSA people needs to get in to shuffle through your belongings, it's not a problem!

I will say, on the website and in a lot of the promotional stuff I've seen, they say that the hard shell is scuff-proof, and that is NOT the case. I know mine is light-colored and I expected scuffs despite their claim. However, most of them come off pretty easily. But even B's suitcase, which is black, came back with scuffs last time he checked it instead of carry-ing on.

All in all, I really love this piece of luggage. I think it will last a long time and let me tell you, that built-in charger really comes in handy! I'm committed to being a carry-on only traveler from now on, and this suitcase has been instrumental in helping me fully embrace it!
