Icebreaker Relay Recap

This year is the second year I've participated in the Icebreaker Marathon Relay at the Pettit Center and the third (I think?) year that the Oiselle Volee from Wisconsin and some birds from Illinois have come together to participate in this event.

There were 8 teams of 4 women and each team ranged in ability from super speed to super endurance!

Staking our claim along one of the curves on the track.

I was one of the first Birds to arrive so I put all my stuff down and headed up to the conference room where packet pick-up was taking place. In addition to the packet pick-up, there were a couple local races (the Madison Mini, the Shamrock Shuffle, and Ragnar) that had tables set up.

After grabbing my team's numbers, timing chip, and shirts, myself and some of the other Birds who had arrived headed back to our Cowbell Corner.

Zoe, Diana, Lori, and I with our Wonder Woman "arm warmers"!

We alternated doing 2 laps each around the track for 12 sets total. I think the total lap count for the full 26.2 is 95.5 laps.

This is what the Oiselle Volee is all about - women supporting women!

It amazes me every year to see a group of women of all different running abilities, ages, and walks of life come together to cheer each other on as we run around an ice rink.

In between sets, I cozied up in my Oiselle Cat Lady jacket and munched on the infamous sugar cookies that are made especially for this event!

After running around a concrete oval for three hours, foam rolling and an epsom salt bath were a must!

This race is so much fun and I love being able to see all my fellow Birds from Wisconsin and Illinois! It is definitely a fun event and a bright spot in the middle of a dreary Wisconsin winter!
