Tails on the Trail 5K Race Recap
I signed Arthur and I up to do the Tails on the Trail 5K, an event put on by the Wisconsin Humane Society (where we adopted Arthur from). The event took place at Veteran's Park in Milwaukee along the lakefront.
We started a fundraising page and raised $80 to help animals at WHS. Next year I'm hoping to raise more, but I'm so grateful to my friends and family who donated!
The day started out hot - the temps went from 78 degrees at our house to 76 degrees at the lakefront, but as the morning went on, the temps rose. I think by the time we finished it was in the mid-80's. We were definitely thankful for the lake breeze!
There was a vendor village with lots of local businesses supporting WHS, including Bel-Air Cantina and Ian's Pizza, which made B very happy.
At the start line, the runners and runners w/dogs lined up first, followed by walkers. Once the runners w/dogs were given the go to start, I forgot to start my watch because Arthur saw all the other dogs run and he tried to take off.
We kept a pretty good pace for the first 2-ish miles; I think our time would have been less had I not stopped Arthur regularly to try to get him to drink some water (the last thing I wanted was a dog suffering form heatstroke) but he wanted nothing to do with it. Then he made friends with a pibble named Frank, who was just mosey-ing along, enjoying the scenery, etc. Frank's owner and I have a lot of mutual running friends, so we talked while the dogs were walking next to each other.
Our official time was 42:55, which was better than I thought we would do and gives us something to beat next year :)
At the finish line, everyone was given half a banana and a bottle of water.
We had such a blast and can't wait to return next year help support WHS! I'm so proud of Arthur for being such a great running partner.
