That Time I Met Deborah Harkness

When I found out that Deborah Harkness (author of the All Souls Trilogy) was coming to Milwaukee on her book tour after The Book of Life was released, I may or may not have screeched.

She is one of my top three favorite authors (sharing the list with J.K. Rowling and Philippa Gregory) and the All Souls Trilogy are three of the most addictive books I have read in a LONG time.

I got to the bookstore that was hosting her, Boswell Books, VERY early. It is on the east side of Milwaukee, where traffic and parking are both quite a challenge, especially during rush hour. The Q&A and signing weren't to start until about 7 pm and I arrived around 3-ish. I actually found a parking spot right outside the front door (meter parking, so I had to remember to feed the meter) and hung out in the store with some coffee - there is a Starbucks attached to Boswell!

One of the perks of getting to a signing early - you end up in the A signing group and get to sit right in the front!

Since I had gotten there so early, I made a few lists (blog-related) and had a little snack. I never go anywhere without snacks.

Yes, I was sitting quite close. :)

She spoke about the story and why she wrote it the way she wrote it as well as read from the first 38-ish pages of The Book of Life. There was also a Q&A session at the end where she answered several questions about why she wrote the story, her process, and what the future holds for Diana and Matthew (no future books, but potentially a movie?!)

I totally squealed and she gave me a huge hug. One of the most awesome people ever.

She signed all three of my books (my beloved paperbacks are looking a little worse for wear, but now have her signature in them!)

I will be doing book reviews on each of the books in this trilogy in the next week or so. I highly recommend that you run to your nearest bookstore and pick them up. The story is wonderfully woven and you will NOT be able to put it down.

And no, it is not like the adult version of Twilight.
