What I’m Loving - June 2024

Summer has well and truly arrived! Southeastern Wisconsin has had a fair amount of hot (and rainy) days this last month, however since our weather for half the year requires multiple layers of clothing, I am not inclined to complain about the heat. Might as well soak it up while it’s here - winter will roll back around before we know it!

Reading:

I spent the last two weeks of the month doing my annual re-read of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. There are very few books I have read that have impacted me and loved an imagined world the way this series has. The writing is amazing, the world building and magic system is next level, and the love story is chefs kiss. This is one of the series that I recommend to anyone interested in the fantasy genre.

Watching:

I fell down quite the Instagram reel rabbit hole finding dudes reading and sharing their thoughts on the ACOTAR series. Steven Walker is one of the accounts I decided to follow and love that he also uploads his reviews to YouTube. (He has also done the two books out in the Fourth Wing series and his reviews make me glad I didn’t commit to that series because it sounds kinda…meh.) Anyways, he’s hilarious and does ACOTAR-related IG reels that had me literally sore from laughing so hard.

Listening:

I’m gong to blame Instagram for all the rabbit holes I fell down his month because I also found this singer - Peyton Parrish - who does rock versions of Disney songs. His versions of I’ll Make A Man Out Of You and Son of Man absolutely slap. He has a Scott Stamp/Hozier type voice and does an amazing job of performing these songs! Highly recommend if you want to relive your childhood but still feel like an adult.
