What I’m Loving - July 2023

I felt like this month really flew by. I started out by making several transitions - Cath lab to Clinic, night shift to day shift, long hair to bangs. Figured I was doing a bunch of other changes, why not also get bangs as well :) As summer is starting to wind down, I am grateful for the beautiful weather we have had here in southeastern Wisconsin (summer storms included) and I hope the weather lasts right up until fall.

Reading:

The latest in Scarlett St. Clair’s Hades x Persephone series, A Game of Gods, was released at the end of the month and I was ecstatic when I opened my kindle and it was uploaded and ready to read! I love her style of writing and her modernization of the Hades and Persephone story from Greek mythology is very well done. If you are into fantasy, fiction, magic, and love, please check her out!

Visiting:

To celebrate our friend’s birthday, we met for dinner and drinks at Merriment Social, which is down in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward. Last year a bunch of us went there prior to going axe throwing for a bachelor/bachelorette party and I had THE best frozen Paloma. Now, I am firmly of the belief that this is definitely more of a drinks place. The food is pretty mediocre (unless you are going for just appetizers, then get the garlic fries and the fried green tomatoes) but their signature cocktails are super fun and rotate season to season. Also the vibe is really great - somewhat eclectic but still has some of the old Milwaukee charm, like the Cream City brick that is visible on the walls.

Decorating:

B and I have been finishing our upstairs den this summer. One side of it is like an “office”, with our computer set ups and all that. But this side, I wanted to have it feel almost like a little Victorian sitting room. I picked up the setée from Goodland Antiques in Bayview, WI along with the wicker basket in the foreground of the photo. We spent several weeks searching for the perfect corner lamp - I wanted something that had crystals but wasn’t obnoxious. We picked up this lamp from Amazon and it perfectly fits the aesthetic I was going for. I also love that the glow of it is soft so it’s perfect for a little reading corner.
