Book Review: Finding Freedom

As an avid Anglophile, I've been watching the whole saga with Harry, Meghan, and the British Royal Family with a lot of interest. I was one of those people who woke up at some god awful hour to watch both William and Kate's wedding as well as Harry and Meghan's. Even though the Duchess of Sussex is American, I honestly didn't know a whole lot about her except that she was on Suits. But I'm always down for a Royal Wedding moment so I soaked up all the news coverage.

Fast forward two years and when Harry and Meghan announced that they were stepping back as working members of the Royal Family, I was shocked. Not that I can blame them - I certainly wouldn't want my every step and breath documented by the paparazzi.

This book was written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, journalists and members of the "royal rota" - basically the press corps of the Royal Family. While the Sussexes deny any involvement with the writing of this book, there is A LOT of information that I can't imagine could have come from anyone except the couple. Per the authors, everything written was "confirmed by at least two different sources close to the Sussexes."

A decent amount of this information is common knowledge or things had that previously been reported on but there is some information that has not been revealed previously. This book does paint Harry and Meghan as somewhat the victims of the whole situation and the authors want you to feel sympathetic towards them - so if you aren't into that viewpoint, this is definitely not the book for you!

I did enjoy the book as someone who loves the Royal Family but I wish they would just say that the information came from the Sussexes.
