Sharing My New Tattoo
For the past three years, I have had this concept of starting a half sleeve on my left arm. I toyed around with what I wanted to have as the beginning and waffled between doing something celestial (like the Taurus constellation), floral, or something Harry Potter-related. I was inspired by Jess Massey (who is one of my favorite
blogger/
Instagrammer people to follow!) and her floral shoulder piece to use peonies as the start.
I asked a lot of friends who have tattoos for recommendation for artists, especially ones that do amazing line work and black/gray. One of my coworkers recommended Sarah (
Facebook/
Instagram) so I looked her work up and WOW. If you want to see amazing tattoos, check out her instagram!
After contacting her, I sent her a few concept images and what I was looking at that inspired me. Sarah took my inspiration and ran with it, creating a custom piece for me that integrated beautiful line detailing and some mandala work to really fill the piece out so that it wasn't just flowers.
Peonies are very special to me. I have very sharp and specific memories of the peony bushes in my great aunt and great uncle's backyard, which is where they used to always have us kids playing when we were at their house. I miss both of them every single day and this is somewhat of an homage to them.
(note: I got this tattoo done on February 14th, well before this pandemic business hit the US. Don't worry, I'm staying home except for work!)
