Minimalism and Decluttering Update

Well, I had planned to do my house decluttering in specific phases, but the thing about life is that sometimes things just don't go exactly according to plan.

My decluttering has been sporadic and there hasn't been any sort of rhyme or reason to it. It's been more of a look in closet, get disgusted by amount of stuff, and attack. I have taken, at last count, 8 bags of stuff to Goodwill and I have 4 more in my dining room that will be going tomorrow.

Below I'm going to list some ways that I'm getting rid of excess stuff.

Purchases from Oiselle: As many of you know, I'm a member of the Oiselle Volee. I have bought a ridiculous amount of stuff from Oiselle and although I love the brand and their products, I have WAY more than I could ever need. I went through the freestanding clothing rack I have that has JUST my Oiselle tops (I know, I know!) and pulled about 10 of them to list on our team Gear Swap page. I did the same for bottoms and accessories. I love being able to send pieces to new homes where they will be worn and loved, and get some money back in the process.

Running Gear: Between Oiselle and Bibrave (which I am no longer a part of, the requirements made it too difficult for me to keep up with between everything else I have going on and work), I have tons of extra gear and products that I no longer have a need for or I have duplicates of. I've been passing those things along to other runners I know.

Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories: As mentioned above, I've taken SO many bags of things to Goodwill, including housewares (who needs so many coffee mugs?!) and decorations. I'm also going to be sending a bag of stuff to ThredUp, which takes clothing and accessories that are in re-sellable condition and gives you a payout. It's not usually a ton, but I figure if I can get anything for the stuff I send, it's worth it. You can also choose to have what they don't take returned to you (although they take money out of whatever you earned to pay for postage to return it) or you can opt to donate whatever they don't take.

Books: I just took two large bags to Half Price Books last week and got $50-ish (which I think is the most I've ever gotten from them). I had some books that I passed on to other people I know who were interested in reading them. As much as I love books, I'm working on having curated bookshelves and only keeping the books I love. So anything that I would never read again is out the door.

It's nice to get some money back from all of this. I'm currently lusting after a winter getaway to London so I'm putting all my money into a travel fund.
