Doing epsom salt soaks is a very common recovery technique used by runners. The theory behind it is that the epsom salt breaks down into magnesium and sulfate, which both absorb into your skin while soaking in a warm bath. This is thought to aid in muscle recovery.
Epsoak Sport uses epsom salt and essential oils (in the case of the Energizing and Soothing varieties) to help aid in muscle recovery. There is also an Unscented option.
I received the Energizing variety to try, which is infused with eucalyptus and peppermint oils. I absolutely love this combination (this scent combo is one of my favorites from Bath and Body Works!) and I find it relaxing at the same time.
I have never been one for the commonly used "ice bath" for recovery, but draw me a hot bath with a beer and some candles and that makes for a pleasant post-race treat! I've been upping my recovery game since starting marathon training and I have found that adding epsom salt baths to my recovery routine has really helped my muscles after hard workouts and hard runs.
I've also been doing them after a few days of long shifts - hey, I'm on my feet for 10 hours at a time!
