International Yoga Day
Today is International Yoga Day!
I remember the first time I ever did yoga. Well, I took a
Les Mills BodyFlow class at the gym my best friend and I used to belong to together with her. I met the teacher, Kim, who is phenomenal and has the most calming presence when she's leading a class. I've stuck with her, even moving gyms when the one I used to belong to cut out all the Les Mills programs.
Yoga has many benefits. I find it relaxing, challenging, and restorative. Practicing yoga regularly has also helped my running immensely. And of course, there's nothing better than a good savasana after an intense yoga practice.
If you're interested in yoga and looking for some resources to get started, I would suggest:
Les Mills BodyFlow (or BodyBalance on the international site) incorporated Tai Chi and Pilates into a yoga practice that is choreographed and set to music. Many gyms across the US offer Les Mills programming and they now offer an "on demand" subscription option.
Kathryn Budig's book,
Aim True, is a great place for beginners to explore the start of a practice.
She also has a
yoga DVD with the same name that I also own and do fairly regularly. I love her, she is such a cool and inspiring woman (and I got to meet her last March!)
If you're a runner looking into a yoga practice, I suggest
JasYoga. Their #HitReset movement aims at restorative yoga that can help athletes with their recovery and strength. It's $4.99/month to subscribe and you have access on any device to their library of videos. As part of the Oiselle Volee, I got to try it out and loved it!
Namaste.
