Kids 4 and under could participate for free!
For people who would be traveling for the holiday but still wanted to participate, there was an Out Of Town Dash Around that was $20 - participants got a shirt and a bib and were encouraged to share pictures and their times on the Drumstick Dash Facebook page.
Swag for the participants included: a long sleeved unisex cotton shirt, race bib, coupons for other Vision events, a Sendik's coupon, a promo ad for Performance Running Outfitters, and a Brewers bobblehead.
Oiselle Wazzie Wool Gaiter, Wigwam Socks Diva Pro Low Cut Socks, Garmin 10 GPS Watch, Plantronics BackBeat Fit, and 2XU Elite MCS Compression Tights.
I was unsure of what the weather that morning was going to be (in years past it has been well below 32 degrees) so I picked out the above outfit and addd my Oiselle Bolt Armwarmers.
Packet Pick-Up ran from 11-3 the day before the race (personally I think they should run it a bit later, since a lot of people still work the day before Thanksgiving) but you could also pick up your packet from 7:00-8:15 before the race started.
There were 4 divisions: Runners, Runners with Strollers, Walkers, and Walkers with Strollers. Participants were encouraged to put themselves in the correct starting area; there were no actual corrals. There was high-energy music at the start along with the National Anthem.
The first 5 people who beat Dash the Turkey won a Performance Running Outfitters gift card, the next 5 finishers won a pie from Sendik's.
The course starts on the grounds of Miller Park and runs through the Story Hill neighborhood just to the north of the stadium before winding back to the Miller Park roadways. There is one pretty steep incline just as you get to the "Welcome to Miller Park" sign off of Story Parkway and then a couple smaller hills as the course moves around the east side of the stadium.
There was one water stop located at about the halfway point with very cheery volunteers. It was easy to grab water and they cheered us on as we ran past.
Prizes were given out for the top 3 male and female finishers.
I also got to meet up with fellow BibRave Pro, Kim! You can check out her blog post and review as well!
I was very happy with my results - got a 5K PR of almost a minute off my previous PR!
I love that Drumstick Dash partners with Feeding America Southeastern Wisconsin to help families in need right here in the community. There was a food collection going on both at packet pick-up and at the race; cash donations could also be made.
A great 5K to do on Thanksgiving! Move your feet so others can eat!
