Protein is super important for building and maintaining muscle. And with so many different kids/brands of protein on the market, it's hard to know which kind is right for you.
About two years ago, I became quite serious about cross training and weight lifting. Cross training when you are a runner is crucial to avoiding injury.
During a workout, your muscle fibers break down. Making sure you get the right amount of protein for your weight (usually .25 g per kilogram of body weight
source) assists in muscle recovery and muscle building.
I've tried a couple different kinds of protein powder, but Everlast is the first vegan protein I've tried. I love that it doesn't taste gritty (although I always make mine in the NutriBullet, so I don't know what the consistency is like with just adding it to water and stirring) and that it tastes sweet without having a bunch of added sugar. Full nutrition information for Everlast VP can be found
here.
My favorite way to make a protein shake is:
- grab a handful of spinach (about a cup or so) (make sure you washed it!)
- toss in any berries you've got - I love strawberries and blueberries!
- if you're feeling it, add a teaspoon of chia seeds
- I like to use Silk almond milk, but you can also use regular milk or coconut milk
- add in some Everlast VP
- blend it all up in the blender for 30-45 seconds (I love my NutriBullet!)
- pour and enjoy :)
Right now, if you place an order from
Everlast (use my code LAURARUNS5 for a 5% discount) you can get free shipping for orders over $20 and you can also get a free shaker!
Each package of Everlast VP is 2 lbs (or 31 servings) for $39.99 which is an awesome price for the amount and quality that you get!
