Race Recap: Rollie Run 5K

On Saturday morning, myself and 2,600 runners descended on Miller Park to participate in the first Rollie Run, a 5K designed around the Brewers legend Rollie Fingers.

My sister-in-law and I before the race.

Runners were outfitted with a shirt bearing the likeness of Rollie Fingers, a matching mustache, Brewers-colored headbands, and optional matching wristbands.

Since the weather was predicted to be in the 50s, I decided to wear my lululemon Run: Inspire II crops that come down further on my leg than my normal running crops and a tank top (lululemon Cool Racerback) underneath my Rollie Run tech shirt.

I also wore arm warmers, although once the sun came out it warmed up pretty significantly and they weren't necessary.

The course ran around Miller Park and the surrounding grounds. There was one gradual hill and one steep hill (which killed me a little bit) but otherwise the course was mostly flat. One of the disappointments of the course was that on the Rollie Run website, the course was indicated to run around the warning track of Miller Park. In fact, on race day, we ran the pictured course backwards and there was no running inside the actual ballpark.

There was only one water stop around mile 2, which was okay but it would have been more optimal to have one at mile 1.2-ish and another at mile 2.2-ish.

The start/finish line staff seemed very uninterested in the race and were standing around smoking. At the start, many people were fooling around in the parking lot and the production staff had to almost force them to run.

I'm all about the whole concept of a "fun run", but at least participate instead of screwing around in the parking lot.

Course music was not good; it involved some speakers plugged into a car and consisted of some free Pandora stations that kept cutting out because the signal was weak or commercials were coming on.

I think the production side of this race could use more work to be professional in presentation.

This race is also not timed and you have to self-time.

Finishers! My time was 27:05, which I believe is my best 5K time yet.

We hit up Cafe Bavaria (a new Lowlands group restaurant that is going off the concept of the German beer hall) for brunch afterwards. I indulged in a mimosa and the Salzburg skillet, which had smashed potatoes, ham, a fried egg, and Wisconsin Weisslacker cheese in it. Absolutely delicious.

Thanks to my wonderful husband for holding my race bag, taking pictures, and tolerating being dragged out of bed early on a Saturday morning :)

I also left a review on BibRave. Check it out here!
